Local Artisan Beer and Cheese Pairing
It might seem strange to pair beer and cheese. But the more I study beer and the more I learn about the complexity of beer I realized they are the perfect match. Deschutes Brewery and The Old Windmill Dairy paired some of our new releases together last year. It was a blast and a hit with the customers at Zinc Wine Bar and Grill in Albuquerque. This year it is all the rage to pair artisanal cheese and beers.
One might say we are lucky, being the co-owners of The Old Windmill Dairy. It is fun to sit down and create a pairing. We enjoy savoring a good crafted beer. At The Old Windmill Dairy we craft over 40 varieties of cheeses including our favorites Manzano Blue moon, our award winning goat milk blue cheese. Last year this was paired with a malty beer. We also paired Capers and Garlic Chevre, Smoked Gouda and our McIntosh (cave aged goat cheese). It is amazing how these two scrumptious foods enhance the taste of one another. Sometimes the beer would bring out the creamy goodness and herbal flavors in cheese. While the Sandia Sunrise Smoked Gouda enhances and holds up to the flavor of a nice stout.
We are so excited to launch a new project with local breweries in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Stay tuned as we start scheduling events at local breweries in your neighborhood.
During theses events we will also be sampling most of our cheese line. Our line of cheeses will be available to purchase.
What is more exciting is that you can sign up for our cheese club and receive a bundle of cheese every month. This opportunity affords customers to receive cheeses they can not get in stores or at farmers markets all year around. In your delivery you will receive a monthly news letter with updates on pairings and suggested recipes to use our cheese in.
