Cautionary Rules

  • Faucets have extremely hot water -160 F degrees. Please turn on the cold water when using hot water. The hot water is required to sanitize equipment.
  • Bring clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or even torn as this is a working farm. Sometimes the goats like to nibble on jackets.
  • Hand washing is essential while working with cheese and working on the farm.
  • When you arrive you are expected to wash your hands prior to petting the goats and before leaving the farm. We have a sink in the red barn for washing your hands.
  • Please let us know if you have been visiting other farms or animals. We have a special cleanser for shoes to reduce bacteria and viral transmission.
  • Goats and other animals are susceptible to various viruses and bacteria and can become sick. To reduce this risk we all must wash our hands and shoes.
  • The OWD is a non smoking environment. Please do not smoke while on the farm.
  • We use stainless steel heavy equipment. This equipment can be very heavy and dangerous to work around.
  • In our basic classes we teach the process of making cheese and we stretch Mozzarella.

  • Please do not bring your pets as our working dogs perceive pets as a threat to the animals on the farm.
  • There are no refunds once the class is purchased. You may gift your purchase to another person and change dates if availalbility allows.

Reserve your own personal day in the Creamery.

Cheese MakingA Day in the Creamery is a more interactive experience with a focus of what it is like to work in a creamery. It is also a terrific team building experience for employers, cheese makers, organizations or family.
The minimum number of students is 1 and the maximum is 8. For $199.00 per person, each student will have hands on experience in making either a Cow or Goat Milk Gouda or Cheddar of your choice. While in the creamery you will go through the steps of making a semi-hard cheese which includes, cooking curd, hooping curd, milling curd and pressing curd. At the end of the class each student will register to receive the cheese they made after it is ripened for 3 months. The exciting piece is each wedge or wheel you made will be labeled with your personal label - made by you.

The cheese class makes a great gift as well as the awesome cheese you make.
